our vet stefan recommends neutering your kitten at four or five months of age to avoid unwanted pregnancies (neutering is also recommended after this age). if your cat is allowed out at this age without being neutered, there’s a good chance he’ll mate and the kittens will be on the way. When it comes to cats in heat, here’s everything you need to know.
how often female cats are in heat and at what age
female cats reach sexual maturity and can reproduce from approximately 4 months. they will then come into heat (or season) every year around February to October. female cats have many short periods about 2 to 3 weeks apart. they do not ovulate until they mate, so this period of heat cycles can be prolonged. older queens (cats) may still have cycles, albeit fewer, until they are spayed. the longer days can trigger reproductive activity, leading to many kittens being born in March, April, and May.
The critical heat season for a male cat is usually from September to March. however, a tom (male cat) that has reached full maturity (typically 6-12 months) may mate with a female cat as long as she allows it.
how to know if your cat is in heat – symptoms & behavior:
- the sound of a cat in heatis different from normal meowing. is extreme vocalization or howling as if in pain. man & amp; female cats call each other, and this may sound very strange.
- women are flirtatious and very affectionate: they arch their backs, rub & rolling on the floor.
- Male cats in heat also seek more attention, but can be aggressive and demanding.
- hindquarters up, tail wagging from side to side.
- eager to leave home in search of a mate: cats in heat may also wander farther.
- male cats in heat will increase their urine spraying activity and engage in more fights.
- it is rare for female cats in heat to bleed.
