frequently asked questions
what is the difference between adams™ regular and water based flea and flea control? pet tick sprays?
adams™ pet spray products come in alcohol and water based formulas. some contain only adulticides, while others contain both an adulticide and the ingredient infest stop™*, which kills the eggs and renders the female flea eggs sterile. water-based formulas dry slower (alcohol speeds up the drying process due to evaporation) but are the choice for irritated skin. water-based formulas contain coat conditioners. alcohol-based formulas dry out quickly, and alcohol has a rinsing effect on fleas, which tends to create a faster kill. some cats may drool when testing the spray on their fur. this can occur with alcohol or water based products. this response is generally self-limiting.
can adams™ dog products be used on a cat and vice versa?
no! Never use flea and tick control products for dogs on cats or vice versa. cats are very different from dogs so they need special formulas. only use products labeled for cats on cats. cats and dogs can have adverse reactions, even death, to certain ingredients in each other’s products. manufacturers of adams™ products tailor the products to the needs of each animal and include the appropriate ingredients for each pet.
can I bathe my pet after applying a topical product?
topical treatments can take up to 24 hours to dry. it is recommended that you refrain from bathing your pet during this time. if you choose to bathe your pet before adding topical products, wait until your pet is completely dry before applying the product.
if I treated my dog a week ago with a topical product and I still get fleas, can I reapply it?
for a heavy infestation, you can re-treat as long as 8 days have passed since the previous application.
can my pet be treated with adams™ flea & check the products if they are under medication?
adams™ products are not systemically active and have no known adverse interactions with systemic medications.
note:
consult a veterinarian before using this product on animals that are debilitated, elderly, pregnant, lactating, or on medication.
Do your flea and tick products have an expiration date?
no, fleas & tick products do not have an expiration date. our products will remain effective long after their date of manufacture when stored according to label instructions. For best results, we recommend using any flea and tick products within 2-3 years of purchase.
how do I apply fleas & pet tick sprays?
Cover the animal’s eyes with your hand. Using a quick firm stroke for a proper mist, mist head, ears and chest until damp. With a washcloth, rub onto the face around the mouth, nose and eyes. then spray neck, midsection and hindquarters, finishing legs last. For best penetration of the spray into the skin, spray directly against the natural lay of the hair. On long-haired dogs and cats, run your hand through the strand of hair, spraying the disheveled hair directly behind the hand. make sure the spray completely wets the ticks.
should you bathe pets before or after using adams™ pet sprays?
we recommend bathing your pet with adams™ & tick shampoo before using our pet spray products. Once the shampoo is rinsed off the pet, the residual activity of the insecticidal ingredient wears off, so it’s important to follow up with a maintenance product to protect the pet from new fleas emerging from their cocoons in the infested environment. pets must be completely dry before spray application.
what is the difference between pet sprays and flea and flea sprays? tick shampoos?
adams™ pet sprays can be used as a supplement to your pet’s regular maintenance program for flea and tick control. Pet sprays are applied directly to the animal to kill and repel fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. shampoos allow pet owners to clean, deodorize and add shine to their pets’ coats while killing fleas, flea eggs, ticks and lice.
why adams™ flea & tick treatment didn’t work?
Generally, after applying our products, you may see more fleas. this is because the products cause fleas to become over-excited, attracting them to the top of the fur before dying.
